A man has been heavily criticised after trying to pull a risky prank at the altar.

Kieran, 28, is a mechanic by day and is one of the contestants on the upcoming season of the E4 reality show Married at First Sight UK.

Joining Kieran in the bold move to meet at the altar is dog walker Kristina, 30, who will make their marriage official in front of millions when the new season airs later this year, with more contestants set to be announced in the coming days and weeks.

But the first clip that has been released to promote the highly anticipated British TV series features Kieran standing at the altar as Kristina makes her way down the aisle, except the groom has decided that this would be the best time to play a practical joke.

Sporting a tweed suit, Kieran also put in a horrible set of fake, gappy, buck teeth that protruded over his bottom lip, shocking Kristina as soon as she saw them.

Spotting her negative facial expression, Kieran took it one step further and acted like it was okay, asking, “Are you alright, are you ok? What’s your name?”

In a voiceover, Kristina can be heard saying exactly what she thinks about the move: “These teeth. What the f**k?”

Before doing it, Kieran explained to producers that the prank was a risky move and that he was ‘nervous’ to see her reaction but wanted to see Kristina’s sense of humour.

“I think the teeth could make us look a little bit immature. I’m a little bit nervous to see how it goes,” he explained.

“This could really end up bad. I just want to know if this girl’s fun.”

Though Kieran saw it as a joke, several users on social media did not share the same opinion, as they took to X to make their opinions on the mechanic known.

One user said: “This is horrible What a nasty joke.”

Another added: “i’m all for wanting to know if someone “matches your vibe” with jokes, etc but not on your first ever meeting.”

A third commented: “This just sums up how unserious this show is.”

But some others thought it was a great joke and made for some stellar entertainment, as another user said: “Yoo, this show is the perfect amount of drama I need in reality TV.”

A fifth said: “We shall be watching,” with two laughing emojis.

Viewers can tune into Married At First Sight UK on E4 when it comes out later this year.
